I'm giving this book a 5 because I love this author. The series is great as well and takes you emotionally from pillar to post! The only problem with writers who can evoke all these emotions is that you simply must have the "soul mates" end up together in the end and the entire book wrap up with the end of oppression- the "Hollywood Ending". If you don't, what happens to readers is that after the final book, we just can't take reading another series by the author where we feel like we just spent 20-30 hours on a story and we now feel depressed because just like real life, things didn't work out! Further, the authors of books like Twilight series or movies like While You were Sleeping,---- they all have the same formula which everyone loves and that is why they are so popular. The hero and heroine get together in the end because the heroine sorts through the messy relationship and comes out figuring out that deep relationships have all kinds of "misunderstandings", "I was trying to do the right thing and it didn't turn out the way I'd planned". It's not like Eden can't love again or love another person, but in this series, Eden and Kiran are depicted as "soul mates" in the first & second book. Soul mates have fights, do and say horrible things to each other just like everyone else. But the great difference is that they really can't stay away from each other because they are bonded like no one else can bond---those two people will never love again like they did with each other and they can never just "forget each other over time". It's not possible & the author does know this because she depicted Eden's mother and father as soul mates with all the attributes of two people who sacrificed everything for each other. If Kiren and Eden don't get together in the fourth and final book, it's like saying to your son or daughter, "well, if you loose your soul mate, don't worry, you can always "settle" for someone else because you have the ability to love again" Just find someone who will love you more and will "patiently wait" for you ----like Jericho/Jacob."Further, as to Eden and Kiran, Eden hasn't even discussed in any book so far with Kiran what their differences are (if any) nor has Eden even asked Kiran to become a part of the resistance! Does he even know that the Titans are dying out? That their people won't be able to survive? He's only 16 and a kid. Eden herself would not know if not for her grandfather. So why not discuss it? I find her inability to communicate & lack of honesty with Kiran alarming--- Let's hope she finally finds her voice in book four and is honest because who knows what Kiran would say. The author portrays him early on as a loving person. When Eden and Kiran visit the village in India there is a sweet and loving spirit portrayed there. Did the author just throw that in for nothing? To confuse us? Because now in book three she makes him look like he is bi-polar! Obviously he doesn't like his father so maybe he never wanted to be King but really just wants to be with Eden over all else. Maybe the author should try to figure out what Kiran's thoughts are and further develop his character.
Bottom line is that no one wants to think that they will go through life with a partner who isn't their soul mate and that they somehow settled because it was easy. Whether the character is Jacob or Jericho, the archetype is still the same--like Jacob said in Twilight "being with me will be as easy as breathing"- well that series was hot because Bella understood that, finally accepted it, knew and admitted she loved him and took the much harder route to find a way to be with the one she could not live without. We as readers love those characters because they can endure and go against the grain and/or peer pressure to do what is not easy nor expected. This is because we want to think of ourselves as those types of people too- not settling for the mate who is easy to love but the guy/girl who you fight for in the end, you sacrifice for and it's definitely not the easy path- but through the struggle we find a depth in our relationship-that intimacy that is sought by all souls throughout their lives.
That being said, this emotional roller coaster ride of a series is very thought provoking & a great read so far. Whether we end up loving this ride or being sick at the end depends upon the author. Whatever it is, we'll all be there together.......

Fearless Magic StarCrossed series Book 3 eBook Rachel Higginson Reviews
Eden's world is in shambles around her. She is alone. Her grandfather was murdered in front of her and her brother and friends have all been taken by the monarchy. That fateful night at the farm has forever changed her existence. How could he have betrayed her this way. He was supposed to love her and protect her, but instead he tore her world apart. The only thing that drives her is vengeance. She must right the wrongs that have been done, no matter the journey or the outcome.
This third installment of the Star-Crossed series is pretty great. This series started a little slow for me, but hasn't let me down since. Eden continues to grow more with every page. I had hoped that after the end of book 2, she would be more of a bad-ass, but she wasn't quite what I hoped. She is still bad-ass, just not the level I envisioned. I guess that is due to her inexperience in this new world.
I found Kiran to be super annoying in this book and I just wanted to flick him off of the map. I was rooting for Jericho all the way and Kiran was only causing problems. He is very self-centered and spoiled. I was proud of Eden for the way she moved on. And Jericho.....oh, sweet Jericho. How amazing is this guy to just sit patiently by and hope for the day that Eden is ready to love him. There was not one page of this book that I didn't hope for them to finally end up in each others arms. I was positively giddy when they finally laid it out for each other.
Sebastian makes a grand appearance in this book and I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by the role he takes on. It was good to see him not being himself for once. The other supporting characters are great. They provide action and comedy which only adds to this story.
I found myself tearing up quite a few times while reading this book. Avalon being tortured to the brink of death and Eden's desperation to save him, the first meeting between Eden and her parents, Jericho and Eden's love blossoming, and the ending of this book were all quite emotional. I am still haunted by the ending of this book. Did I see it coming? Yes. I figured this was the way it would go. Eden never really had another choice. Did I throw my head back and say "what the hell!!!"? Absolutely!! But I stilled loved it. I can't wait to start book 4. The only complaint that I have is that these books need to be edited badly. I am able to look past those mistakes though due to the fact that this series is truly amazing and deserves to be published. READ IT!!
