Court of Nightfall The Nightfall Chronicles Book 1 eBook Karpov Kinrade

I'm not going to finish this one, even though I'm actually 81% through. However, I'm really only that far because I started skimming and skipping trying to get to the end, and then I just didn't even have enough interest to do that any more. It just didn't flow. A lot of stuff happening, but it didn't keep my interest at all. I don't know if t was just lack of depth, background, confusing events, or what, but I just couldn't get invested in the characters. Usually, even if the writing itself is terrible (which wasn't necessarily the case here-no glaring grammar or writing errors), I keep wondering what will happen with the characters, and how the story will end. But I don't find any desire to see what happens with these characters.

Court of Nightfall The Nightfall Chronicles Book 1 eBook Karpov Kinrade Reviews

I am proud to say that I am a BETA reader for Karpov Kinrade, and I just finished reading their latest creation, Court of Nightfall (The Nightfall Chronicles Book 1); and may I say it was AMAZING!!

Have you ever fallen in love with a story about mythological creatures, angels, or a heroine with super human-like abilities? If you said yes to any of this, or perhaps to all three, then you are in for quite a treat with this badass, action packed, witty, story of a young woman whose life is suddenly turned upside down, and her life is now not what she once thought to be. This tale begins with young Scarlett Night, who with the misfortune of being born color-blind, dreams of becoming nothing other than a pilot. At this point in her life, everything is as it should be two loving parents, the opportunity to finally achieving her lifelong dream, and her best friend since being in diapers; Jax. Now on this almost perfect-like-day, Scarlett's life drastically flips inside out, and she finds herself feeling confused, alone, angry, and suddenly thrown into the world that was once the Nephilim Wars. For Scarlett, she was a young child when the wars were being fought; a war between human kind and angel-like creatures with amazing superhuman abilities called Nephilim. As she finds herself being thrust into the middle of something big and not yet explainable, will she be able find a way to survive? With her old life in shreds, who will she finally become?Intrigued? Then on December 14, grab a copy of Court of Nightfall by Karpov Kinrade, and you will not be disappointed. As much as I would love to tell you more of an epic adventure, I will assure you that you will find yourself falling in love with Scarlett; with Nightfall.

What found most unique about Court of Nightfall, is the style they used to portray Scarlett. While reading this badass adventure, you will feel like you are right there in the middle of all the action. You will never want to story to end.
A thrilling start to what I expect to be a spectacular series from the bestselling duo, Karpov Kinrade, I was instantly sucked into this story. I will admit, though, that this book was quite different from what I was expecting. I imagined it to be purely fantasy based, with paranormal beings in a fantasy world, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it took place on earth, and had a great mix of normal and paranormal beings.
Scarlett was likable from the very first second she was introduced. The struggles she faced in her desire to reach her dream gave her an innocent, human quality, however, her determination to see her dreams come true, not matter what stood in her path, showed a more fierce individual; one to be respected. And this fierceness showed through in every decision she made throughout the book.
Everything seemed pretty normal for Scarlett, until it all fell apart, and she realized her life had been built on secrets and lies. Thrown into a new existence, having to face many changes and to accept the truths that had been hidden from her, Scarlett had many choices to make. Although, on the outside, the Orders seemed to be fighting for the right cause, deep within the walls of Castle V, there was plenty corruption and deception, making me wonder if they could be trusted in any way. And then there was Zorin, a being she never would have imagined teaming up with. It felt like Scarlett had more faith in him than she did in, Jax, her lifelong friend. I could, however, understand her hesitancy in trusting someone who had lied to her and kept secrets; some of Jax’s behaviour was questionable, even though he, in his own way, seemed to after the same outcome as she was.
In a fight for truth, freedom and justice, Scarlett and her new alliances have a great battle before them. One I am only too eager to see come alive in the pages of the other books in this series. Part X-men, part Nikita, this book was filled with suspense and intrigue – and by that epilogue, this story is a twisted web of lies just waiting to be unravelled.
This was a book with a great deal of promise. After all, who doesn't want to read about a strong female protagonist fighting as a superhero for the good of the people?

The problem however is that the authors try to incorporate so much action so quickly that pacing, world building and character development suffer. Every action by the protagonist feels impulsive and rash - nothing is really thought out with any amount of exposition on the authors' part.

Finally, the bad guy was very Snidely Whiplash in that he might have stepped whole cloth from a children's cartoon. It is great when authors present antagonists whose motivations you can understand, rather than just have a shallow evil dude to fill the requisite blank.

In summary, this seemed a more YA title to me. It could have been so much more had the authors taken the time to really develop the characters and the world around them instead of creating what felt like a hodgepodge of action scenes.
I'm not going to finish this one, even though I'm actually 81% through. However, I'm really only that far because I started skimming and skipping trying to get to the end, and then I just didn't even have enough interest to do that any more. It just didn't flow.
