I love Lani’s books! 1. The Herione and Hero are always on point and super amazing together! 2. The Sex Scenes are HOT!!! 3. I want the Hero for myself 4. The Sex Scenes are HOT!!! 5. They are such well written stories that suck you in and take you along for a crazy and HOT ride.
That being said this is another one of her books that fit right in and has a great story! My only little “meh†to the plot line is that there seems to be so much going on so fast that it takes away from the overall storyline. I mean how many times can a character get hurt and bad stuff happen to them - this is not real life and if it is I am so sorry for them! That being said the plot is still amazing and it is still a book that I have reread and would read again and again!

Ember Tremaine is Max’s sister and Cheyenne’s best friend. After an athletic injury and a loss of her athletic scholarship, Ember decided that she wanted to be able to those that suffered an injury like hers. Ember and Cheyenne are still crazy funny and like to annoy their brothers for fun like an old pastime.
Gabe Maldonado is another one of the men of Free. Half-Brazilian and half-white makes him a beautiful specimen of a man. But he doesn’t have a very good self-image because of years of verbal abuse at the hands of his step-dad. His step-dad blames Gabe for his mother never loving him because she was still in love with Gabe’s dead father. Gabe never told his mom because he knew that she would feel terrible and would blame herself.
When a gang is after Ember & she is rescued by Gabe, they become inseparable. Gabe is taking care of Ember and she in turn is soothing what plagues him. But when Ember figures out and makes a connection to Gabe’s past, he is floored as are most of the men & women of Free. And everyone bands together to get the ball rolling to help wrong a right for Gabe.
I did like this book better than the first one, but this book contained quite a few grammatical and typographical errors. We were able to see and know much more about all the characters of the Freebird series, so we really feel like we know them all well.
Maybe Gabe should have been a baby doctor! You’ll see what I mean.
There are 5 books in the Freebird series, one for each single man, Sam, Gabe, Max, Jack & James and I read through this entire series and learned that Elliott and his wife Blaine will be getting their own novella, currently untitled and no release date. But I’ll be reading it as well!

I really can't get enough of the way Lani writes. This was her second book and I loved it as much as any of her new ones. The things I think that I adore about her love stories is you don't have to wait for her couples to get together at the very end. Gabe and Ember had been dancing around their attraction for a while. I loved that Gabe stopped having any other dates or women for months because all he thought of was Ember. I love how loyal Lani's heroes are. Then I normally can't stand crazy exes and especially when they have the "surprise child" but in this case it worked and I loved it. There wasn't any "I want him back" drama. It was all just one crazy as hell woman and I cried with all she did to that baby girl. I loved Ember's loud and crazy personality. I really can't say how much I love books where the author doesn't add all of the relationship angst to "prop" the book up when you can have an amazing love story with a couple falling in love and supporting each other. The relationships that Lani creates with all the secondary characters just keeps me wanting more. I really just love this Author.

Highway Don't Care is Ember and Gabe's story and its oh so good. If you read book one then you were introduced to both characters. Ember is Max's younger sister and Cheyenne's best friend. Gabe is a member of Freebirds which is all the guys from army unit. They restore bikes, build bikes and fix cars but there real work is helping people get out of violent relationships but giving them a new life. Gabriel and Ember were circling eachother in book one and when Ember needs him the most he will come running to save her.
I love Lani's stories and see her new series is all about the older children in her series finding love...I decided to go back and re read each series to get a refresher. Freebirds is a great series that will give you laughter, tears, angst and ahhs. Vale has a way of sucking you into a story, never letting you up until the final word and then wanting more. If you haven't read her stories I suggest starting with Freebirds and working your way up to the most recent. In a way each series is connected. Vale has created a wonderful world around her fictitious Texas and Louisiana. I highly recommend reading this series in order...books follow eachother's timeline plus it gives you a better understanding the characters and storyline. Happy Reading!!!!
I have loved all the other books and series by Lani Lynn Vale. Yes, I read the other series before reading Freebirds. But I finally have time to catch up and now I'm on a binge. I was getting into a reading funk, so I'm glad I went to this series to get me out of it.
I loved Ember in Boomtown (book 1). And I think I love her even more in this one. Yes, she's a smartass, but she's funny. She also has a huge heart. She would give up the man she loves, to keep his daughter, that isn't hers, safe from harm.
Gabe is awesome also. He will do anything for the people that he loves. He showed that in the warehouse scene. You'll just have to read it to see what I mean.
And of course, like in the other series, the little quotes at the beginning of each chapter, had me laughing out loud.
"I like the way you taste. It makes me want a hamburger."
"If a woman is upset, hold her and tell her how much you love her. If she starts to growl, tetreat and throw chocolate at her."
